What if the most sustainable thing you could do is to actually spend less?
In a world of fast fashion and quick fixes, do you find that choosing eco-friendly means paying more? What if the real savings come from choosing something that simply lasts? No need to throw away and replace after weeks, or months.
At Planet Terra, sustainability isn’t just about beautiful planet-conscious fabrics. It’s about durability. It’s about thoughtful design that is functional, with double stitching where it's needed most. It’s about creating handmade pieces that won’t need replacing in a few months.
"Buy less. Choose well. Make it last," British designer Vivienne Westwood.
Sustainable — and Sensible
When you choose a Planet Terra product, you’re choosing:
High-quality materials sourced right here in Australia (THAT is vitally important to us!)
Reinforced stitching in high-stress areas
Fully lined, carefully constructed designs
Slow-made craftsmanship — not mass production
Every seam is sewn with intention. Every stress point is strengthened. Because sustainability isn’t just about what something is made from — it’s about how long it stays out of landfill. And if it does break, please contact us: in over three years of business, we have had one item returned to us. (We fixed it and posted it back - no extra charges, not even postage.)
The Hidden Cost of “Cheap”
Lower-priced, mass-produced items often need replacing again and again. Over time, that adds up — financially and environmentally.
A well-made pouch, bag, or wetbag that lasts for years? That equals fewer replacements. Fewer impulse purchases. Less waste. More value and definitely more money in your pocket.
It’s the quiet power of choosing well the first time.
Handmade Means Built to Last
As a small Australian sewist, I create each piece myself — with care, experience, and attention to detail. Reinforced stitching where it matters most. Premium cottons and materials chosen for strength as well as beauty. Designs that are practical, timeless, and made for real life.
Because I don’t believe sustainable should mean fragile.
And I don’t believe quality should be disposable.
Yet sustainable also means 'compostability': the bulk of each item should be either recyclable, reusable or else break down completely again. That is the very reason we offer our products in 100% Cotton, and / or Linen.
All of the hardware can be removed & used again elsewhere in your life. Even zippers can be unpicked and re-inserted into other garments.
The exception here are our PUL products - there are no comparative fabrics available which are water-resistant AND have the ability to break down in the same manner natural fibres do.
We have found that a product called ECO PUL exists. When current stock has been sewn up, this is a fabric we are excited to try and offer to our customers.
Recently, a young mum informed me that the PUL wet bag she purchased has lasted nearly 3 years (and 2 babies!) with regular washing and use. How fantastic is that!
If you’re looking for products that are gentle on the planet and kind to your wallet in the long run — you’re in the right place.
"As consumers, we have so much power to change the world by just being careful in what we buy." — Emma Watson, actor and activist - and conscious consumer.
Buy once. Use often. Love for years.
That’s the Planet Terra way. 🌿
